A 5-credit (0.5 Carnegie credit) course is the equivalent of a one-semester (half-year) course, and a ten-credit (1 Carnegie credit) course is the equivalent of a two-semester (full-year) course. In California and many other states, SVHS courses carry 5 credits. In states that adopt the Carnegie credit system, the courses equate to a half credit.
